Watch Jacques Derrida Explain the Question of Being and the ‘Trace’

In this short video, deconstructionist Jacques Derrida discusses the foundation of philosophy as the question of Being, and what it means to question that question. Derrida goes on to discuss his indebtedness to Heidegger and connects the “question of the question” to his idea of the “trace,” noting that the trace puts into question the idea of presence or the present

Fantastically lucid, especially given that the first thing Derrida’s critics point to is his supposed ‘obscurity’. I think even Noam Chomsky could have a reasoned discussion with Derrida about the points raised here.

A perfect video. Thank you for uploading!
