Call for Papers

The Vassar College Journal of Philosophy is a student-run publication supported by the Philosophy Department of Vassar College. Dedicated to both quality and accessibility, it seeks to give undergraduate students from all disciplines a platform to express and discuss philosophical ideas.

All those interested in contributing an essay to the issue of the Journal to be published in the Spring of 2016 are invited to review the submission guidelines listed below. Every issue of the Journal has an overall theme. Submissions ranging across a variety of topics are welcome as long as they can be related to that theme, which this year is “Nature.”

“Nature” is a broad theme that lends itself to a wide variety of philosophical approaches, including but not limited to: ethics (applied and normative), social and political philosophy, aesthetics, metaphysics, the history of philosophy, Western and non-Western traditions, and Critical Theory. It responds to such questions as “What is nature?” “Is there a meaningful distinction between the natural and the artificial?” “What is at stake when we conceive of the natural?” “How do we interrogate the nature of something?”

The Journal is available digitally at philosophy.vassar.edu/students/journal.
